Most of the festivals are closely related with Buddha and focus on gratefulness. Every January, the Naga festival celebrates in the northern region of Myanmar. The entire Naga tribes from all around Myanmar come to this Naga festival in order to participate this harvest festival and make wishes for new year. How to get Naga Festival?

If you want to join the Naga festival, you will need to go to Homalin firstly. Unfortunately, there is not any direct flight from Yangon to Homalin and Khamti. However, you can take a flight from Mandalay to Khamti and Homalin and it will cost around 100$ per person. From Khamti, you can take five hours long shuttle boat trip to Hta Man Thi on the Chindwin River. If you want to go there by car, you have to choose 4*4 wheel. From there to Leshi, there will be a transportation service which will cost around 10$ per person and it may take nearly 4 hours. You can enjoy panoramic view of Naga hills along the road.

Homalin is a remote border town and near with India border. Moreover, it has the large forested mountains and which rises up the feet of 9000. Leshi is in the northwest region of Myanmar and home for the Naga ethnic group.

Naga is the ethnic group of Myanmar and distinctly separate from other tribes. They usually wear the conical red headgear which are adorned with wild-boar canine teeth and the black and white feathers of the tropical bird. Before the 19th century, they were popular as the headhunters and maintained the heads of the enemies as the prizes of the victory of success.

The Naga ethnics are the professional craftsmen. Furthermore they have a various style of designing their huts. All Naga tribes are furnishing the entrance of their houses with the heads of buffaloes is the common. The Naga people also love the vibrant colors and this can be remarked in their shawls and headgear.

Folk songs and dances are the essentials of their cultures and they are romantic and historical as well. These songs will be narrative the history of famous antecedents and incidents.

Meaning of Naga

Naga is the word which represents a serpent or snake, particularly the King cobra. The definition of Naga in Hinduism and Buddhism denotes the half-human and half-serpent and sometimes can transfer into human figure. They are usually portray in three forms entirely humans with snakes in the heads and necks, half is human and the other half is snake.
